7:30 am: Meet in hotel and head across the island towards the Zapata Península, one of the finest centuries-old nature preserves, inhabited only by a few fishermen and peat cutters. This area is nearly ecologically intact.

To break up the trip stop at Fiesta Campesina, an estate that is used as a rest area and has an interesting exhibit of Cuban flora and fauna. The road continues into the Parque Ciénaga de Zapata; a little farther along you come to La Boca.

Visit the crocodile farm that has more than 10,000 crocodiles, which are raised here as much to protect the species as to exploit them for their commercial value.

A boat will take you from La Boca to La Laguna del Tesoro. The route passes along a channel cut through the vegetation. Once you have crossed the lagoon, the launch takes you to the Guamá Tourist Center. Built in imitation of a Taino Indian village; in one there is a sequence of 25 life-size sculptures depicting the daily activities of the indigenous people.

Lunch at local restaurant.

4:30 pm: Return to Havana.
